The Navico Autopilot

is the most important device on board. Reima has two of them, in case one should fail. The solo sailer has to rely on his autopilot for a fair amount of time - even if he is awake, it often pays to trim the sails yourself and let the pilot do the steering. It's faster to hold the spinnaker sheet in your hand instead of the tiller.

The Navico 300CX tiller pilot has proved the best and the most reliable of the lot.

"Sunday night and dinner time.... Freeze dried Boeuf Bourgignon - its actually very good. Add hot water and stir, leave for 5 minutes, and add lots of Tomato Ketchup! Very tasty. Only problem is trying to pour the water in (the galley is simply a kettle welded to a Camping Gaz, supported in mid air by shock cord and a hook) with one hand, balancing the freeze dried sachet in the other, whilst the boat is moving violently (most of the time)! Very amusing, now."
