The Emergency Exit

Emergency exit

The Mini Rule requires that every boat have an escape hatch in the stern which allows the solo sailer to get out if the the boat is overturned. The life raft is kept inside, in front of the hatch, so the sailer can take it with him when exitting from the capsized boat.

The Mini Rule also requires that that the boat must have a mimimum of 1200 litres of foam inside the hull, thus making the 850 kg boat insubmersible in case of a leak.

"I'm not really sure I'm cut out for this or not. But its been good to overcome the challenges so far - and they present themselves every hour. Last night was the limit. Struggling a bit. So close to the edge the whole time. One wrong foot, and it could be over. Do I get a buzz from that? I guess I do. I wish You could be there to see what this is about. But maybe I'm feeling I should not take it quite so hard. I know I'm near my limit. Ha ha. Long way to yet. A lot more hurdles yet. Feeling a bit lonely I guess - no contact with anyone visual or verbal for a few days."
